The original closet door latches had failed (the top lip broke off and the ball popped out). Probably due to poor installation practice (see below comments). The prior home owner bought the style typically available from local home improvement (not the same style) and simply inserted them in the original's socket and screwed down the plate (these, like the originals, do not have a plate). It looked pretty bad, home made, and also had issues. I removed his crappy work, removed the original's sleeve and installed the new unit. To install I took the old socket ring from the original, turned it upside down, and used it as a hammering block to direct the hammer impact onto the new one, knocking it into position without damage. I suspect the originals were damaged because someone just hammered them straight in without a block or guide to protect the ball retaining lip on the top, which probably took too much of the impact, and then eventually broke off. These fit perfect, work well and look so much better than trying to make the wrong product fit. Hopefully they will last a long time, I had to install 3 sets of these on closet doors (6 pieces total) due to the aforementioned issues with the prior latches. This is the only source I have used to replace the hardware that was originally installed in my house when it was built. None of this replacement hardware has failed since being installed. I will not go anywhere else. This replacement fit perfectly in a closet door and was easy to adjust.I’ve been fighting with my closet doors for years. I don’t know why I didn’t think about replacing the ball catches sooner. It was very easy: the old ones came out with needle-nose pliers, and these popped into place. These have a very light touch and the doors gently click into place.Listed as pack of 2. It is only 2 parts, the socket ball and the frame catch, not 2 sets of socket and catch.Timely delivery, easy installWorks. More heavy duty than I anticipated. Not decorative or very brassy like. It works and does as intended. It is mostly out of site. But I might go to a decorative hardware or a site with more selection next time. It does exactly as intended and installed easily with right drill bit and tools - minimal handyman skills needed. My two closet doors have been hanging open for three years or four years because the original door latch mechanisms broke ages ago. I finally ordered a pair of these catches. When they arrived, it took all of five minutes to pop them in. They easily adjust to suit the door-to-frame gap and work great. Never should have waited so long to make this easy, inexpensive repair.
