I used these ball catches on chess boards with drawers I was making. I needed small ones with plates under 1/2" wide and there weren't many options. Since the drawers open on both ends of the chess board, I needed a way to keep the drawer from falling out. I had to chisel out the mortises on the drawer front for the plates and attached the balls to the top by drilling 5/16 holes. They work perfectly and I'm really happy with the results. My only complaint is that it took quite awhile to receive them, but I knew this when ordering. I'm guessing they came from China.
